The legislation for the Widow’s/Widower’s pension for cohabiting couples has still not been published. While this delay is frustrating, Treoir continues to engage with members of the Oireachtas to advocate for the enactment of this important legislation as soon as possible. Unfortunately, we do not have an official timeline for when it will be passed.

In the meantime, we strongly encourage those affected by this issue to apply for the Widow’s/Widower’s pension if they have not yet done so or were previously denied. It is vital that we continue to show the government how many people are affected by this issue, and ensure as many people as possible are included in the new legislation. 

We also encourage you to follow up with your local TDs to raise awareness and put pressure on them to address this important issue. Your voice can help push for the legislation to be enacted sooner.
